Raf Simons' first couture collection is definitely not a last, as what he brings to the legendary Parisian house is a fresh, slightly modern taste, and the fusion of the two sides is a most delicate transformation. While John Galliano exhibited fun, diverse shapes and designs, I enjoy Simons' stream-lined, dip-your-toes-in minimalist couture. The mustard yellow gown was especially striking, with its jersey top that seems to melt into the satin skirt of the gown. I detected a whiff of a play on proportions, on the exaggeratedly tiny busts paired with likewise giant hips and skirts. I can also imagine the black cigarette trouser suit on Suvi Koponen to rest on the strong frame of Tilda Swinton, peplum and all. What the black bar jackets and trousers lacked in color, (which was made up by rooms of flowers) it did not in the least lack in personality. Quite the lady with an edge, to say the least.
